Project Overview

Western Allied was brought on as a design / build contractor with the goal of helping the Electrical Training Center achieve Net Zero Plus (NZP) status. our focus was to help find ways to reduce the load on the HVAC system then design and install the most efficient system that would work with existing infrastructure. The HVAC system is comprised of several chilled water air handlers to serve classrooms and administrative areas. The chilled water plant utilizes efficient magnetic bearing compressors and waste heat from the chilled water plant is used to heat the building. The DDC control system uses very aggressive reset schedules to maintain the system efficiency. The project is the focus of the PBS documentary "Building Below Zero".
